The only thing I can think of is that perhaps your coat of Vallejo was thick and the air temp high, so it may have "skinned" quickly on top and then that skin shrunk as the underlying paint dried, creating ripples.

I would be interested in seeing what happens if you repeat the process using very light mist coats.

All is not lost, Vallejo paint can be removed very easily using denatured alcohol. You should be able to recover your model without any problems.

Hi,
      Everyone

I seem to be having a lot of trouble with getting ripples in my paint finishing on my Tamiya 1/48

Panzer III.   I am using Vallejo Model Air Middlestone which I usually spray unthinned but have tried

both with and without a few drops of their brand of thinner with the same results. It also doesn't

matterwhich A/B I have tried both my Paasche H and Iwata HP-C and tried varying the air pressure

as well.

Here is what I think might have happened:

1.) Primed the model with Vallejo Grey Acrylic Primer. Let it dry for 48 hours (actually a few weeks).

2.) Gave a few misting coats of Spray Can Tamiya Dark Yellow.

3.) Didn't like the finishing so stripped everything as much as possible.

4.) Re-primed with Mr. Surfacer 1000 Spray Can.

5.) Applied first try of Vallejo Model Air Middlestone and that is when the problems began.

So I think I might just have to much incompatibility among the above steps and the model is

now just a total loss. What are others opinions?

Thanks in advance.......

Scott

BTW, I used the same paint, Vallejo Model Air,  to finish my Tamiya Sd Kfz 222 before this project

with no ill effects.
