Texgunner, nice-looking Mig with excellent finish.  What do you use for thinning, in order to airbrush?

Once lived in Tyler (TX).  TX is a great state.

Thank you very much.  Those old Monogram kits can be wrestled together into a pretty fair model sometimes.   iirc, I used Floquil Dio-Sol back then.   I've been told that's not available anymore, but that lacquer thinner will work as well.  Yep, Texas is pretty cool, uh, well not lately...it's been hot as hell here.Wink

Another Floquil fan here.  I've used Old Silver and Bright Silver on several NMF jobs.  Here's my Monogram MiG-15 in Old Silver.

Is this one of MM's metalizer paints?  If so, these are notoriously fragile.

For metallic finishes, I always use Floquil Railroad paints.  They have a number of silver type shades (Bright Silver, Old Silver, Platinum Mist), and if thinned with Floquil thinner (used to be called Dio-Sol) or lacquer thinner, they are quite tough and durable.

Still, all metallic finishes can tend to be fragile, and might be prone to lift with the masking.  I always make sure the surface is clean, with no grease, fingerprints, etc.  Then the metallic paint seems to adhere better.

Below is an example of a Floquil natural metal finish, although I don't remember which Floquil I used.

i am building the old B 36 peacemaker kit and figured i would use model master paints( enamel) as to save on cost it is a huge kit  . Well i put down a coat of primer and then sprayed the whole  plane .  model master chrome and let that cure for a few days  now i set out on the task of masking off select panels  well i had made a mistake on one of the wing edges and had to remove some tape ( tamia yellow ) and to my disgust the tape is pulling the sheen off of the chrome paint  how  do I mask over this paint? do i have to clear coat before i mask the chrome paint  . any suggestions i know  i have a mess on my hands i finished  masking almost half of the plane before noticing my problem !
