I will be airbrushing small metal ship models and was wondering what brand "dull coat" to use as the final coat?
Will that serve the same purpose as a Future clear coat does for decals?
Once the model is painted, the material the kit is made of becomes unimportant. The dullcoat compatibility is then an issue of what paint type you use. Yes, dullcoat will protect decals, and make the edges a bit less noticable.

Since you mentioned decals...
If the reason you wish to apply the clear coat is to provide a base upon which to apply decals then no. If you intend to apply decals, apply either a commercial gloss coat or Future (or equivalent) first. Apply the decal/s and then apply the dull coat.
If you apply decals to a flat surface (as provided by the dull coat) it will cause the decals to silver.
I hear & appreciate what everyone is saying. With the 1/1200 scale, layers of paint/clearcoats can cover up the detail too much. I guess I am trying to avoid the 3 layers of: paint, Future, then dullcoat. Perhaps it is unavoidable.
