Quick Future Question
Posted by IceDragon122 on Saturday, October 20, 2012 12:05 PM

Hey guys

So i recently finished my P-51D Mustang and i noticed that my canopy went from a bright crystal clear shine to a dull, almost foggy look.

At the start of the model i dipped the canopy in future, then after painting i attached the canopy and glossed over the entire model (including canopy) with future to get a glossy appearance. The canopy at this point is very clear. I applied the decals and then added Tamiya Flat base to Future (1:10) ratio of Tamiya Flatbase to Future and sprayed over the entire model.

Now i have a dull, foggy like canopy.......

did the flat base w/ the future dull the canopy?

Just for reference....how do you fella's attach and future your canopy's?

Thx for the help!

Yes ,it sounds like that's what happened, perhaps you should have masked the canopy or removed it before you applied the dull coat

...Yes, don't flat coat the canopy!! Dip it in future if you want, but after its dry mask it off and leave it masked until after the flat coat is applied. I don't normally future my canopy unless I plan on using super glue to attach it. I normally use Micro crystal clear glue.

If the surfaces are painted, then Elmer's glue applied sparingly works good to attach canopies.  And it dries clear.

You might want to try removing the clouded Future from the canopy with Windex or ammonia.  Don't know if it work since you added the dull coat to the mix, but it might be worth a try.

He's right, it may take a while for the Windex (what I'd recomend) to lift the Future, but it will work; as the dull coat is on top of the Future

then next time no dull coat... ...

Good Luck , let us know how it works out.
