Aluminum finish and Future
Posted by oortiz10 on Thursday, February 12, 2004 1:31 PM
I know that the surface beneath a “metal” finish has to be completely smooth. I usually polish the plastic and use Floquil silvers. I’ve never used Future before and I was wondering if I could use it beneath the silver? I’m not doing a NMF; the aircraft was actually painted with an aluminum lacquer. I’m wondering if I can paint my primer, do the panel lines, cover it all with Future, then shoot the Floquil? Will that be smooth enough?
Thanks in advance,
-Omar

If you do the panel lines, then paint over the top of them what have you accomplished? Are you talking about preshading them just as an effect maybe?

You can paint enamels over Future if you give the Future ample time to cure first. That shouldn't be a problem, and I think it would make a great primer, as it's smooth as can be and self leveling. Keep us updated, as I'm interested to see how this comes out.
