Detail airbrush painting
Posted by FilleeDaaahl on Friday, November 2, 2012 12:52 PM

Hi! Is there any way of painting small tiny parts with an airbrush? Like the handlebars on a bike and the discbrakes on a mc and a F1 car just to minimize the strokes left of a regular brush?

Yes.  I keep a collection of things like miniature clothespins, alligator clips, etc., to grab the smallest protuberance on a part. If there is nothing at all to grab onto, I have to paint the part it two sessions.  Thus I group parts of one color, do them all in one or two airbrush sessions.

For some small parts I take a stick of scrap wood, and apply a strip of double-sided sticky tape. I put a bunch of parts on that and spray one side.  When dry I remove them, replace the tape, and do the other side.

You would be surprised just how small a part you can paint with an airbrush. Some parts may require careful thought and planning in masking and perhaps masking using various techniques and mediums, such as masking fluids, but it can certainly be done.
