Mr surfacer + vallejo primer + vallejo paint and weathring.

Dear friends,

novice here. I am buiding a 1/35 trueter kv2 "big turret". First model in over 30 years. Got ok abbembly, experienced with some technichs. Most went fine until priming with vallejo black primer. Few minor workover to be done and most of them seemd easy enoufg. This is where things got messy. Apparently 2 smols glue drps at the top of the turrent could make their way into visibility after priming. More importantly, some bends in the fenders became visable.  Appart from that, the painting of the primer was beautiful. So my guess that  some tamiya basic puty  putty  and filing woul do the work.. Putty went a bit messy and and filing  letf a mess of scratch lines and, i guess, unevel surface. Question:should I go through a new round of priming? Or try some MR surfacer airbrush and sort of start over convering the originalnprimeir job? My gues is that mr surfacer should level out imprfations andngive mena fresh start. If so, shouldni use mr surfacer 1000 or 1200 hthrough the airbrush? How do I thine it (lacquer or regular humbrol thiner)?

For my new KV 2 ( yes I want to buil a new one based on the lessons learned and try to take it a step ahead by using then mr surfacer ane then the black primer before painting andnweathering.

I will try to post picturesof my disaster/ current situation. i will finish this model and bringbthe lessons to the next.

any thoughts on my strategy on thev mr surfacer + pimer -+ vallejo paing?

newbie thaks, and ou

Easy enough, right.file way the dots

Well... Jus tried MR Primer Surfacer 1000 1:1 with Humbrol  enamel thiner. Clogded my airbrush almost instantly!!!

Guess I should either do it  pure or with lacquer thiner.

Any sugestions?

the thinners for Mr Primer Surfacer are your choice of either the Mr Leveling Thinner or Tamiya Lacquer Thinner

I have not tried any Enamel thinners in mine, I am deathly afraid that they are not hot enough

the Mr Leveling was the Hot Tip when I bought my bottle, but, the vendor didn't have any, so I got the Tamiya "yellow cap" instead

Yeah! Do not use the enamel thiner. I had to run like crazy out of fear of ruining permanently my airbrush. Will try Tamiya lacquer thiner next. i do not have the levelling at hand unfortunately. Do you like the results as opposed of just using a " regular" primer?

After trying it, I moved it back to the "brush on and then sand" pile of substances

I started using Alclad's already mixed primer/surfacer,,,,,,it comes with shot in it already to shake,,,,,,,,it works like a dream, I just go out on the porch, shake the jar until there is no more evidence of gray flecks in the bottom of the jar,,,,,,,pour or pipette it into my airbrush cup,,,,,and spray

it dries in minutes, the smell is gone in a very short time, and when I open the plastic box the next day, the model is ready for my Acrylic paints, which I can then spray indoors right next to "Mrs Allergic"

the only caveat I have is that if you have to keep the smells away,,,,,,,,,,,,don't open the plastic box early or often,,,,,,just wait it out a bit,,,,,,,,,,,even with a little waiting, it is still faster than some of the other primers we've used

that lets the Mr Surfacer work as a very thin, stick-brushable putty, that can be sanded in just a few minutes, perfect for those seams that show up after you thought you were all done, but are just barely there to bug you,,,,,,just accept it, brush the stuff on only right there, and sand after a beverage break
