Hi,

I know 'zip' about rifles but a couple of comments that might be useful. First, I've never found a paint that can mimic polished brass and I've tried a number but not Design Master. You might try gold leaf (available in arts/crafts stores) and burnish it on the finished wood; 2nd, you could get get gold trim Monokote at a model shop and iron it on - it looks like polished brass; and, ditto for gold mylar like in mylar baloons; and, last, you could try brass  "Rub'n'Buff"  and use enough coats to get the gloss you want. With a well sealed finish on the wood and enough coats/effort with Rub'n'Buff you can get a reasonable finish. Don't know about the patina though.

1. How do I get a polished brass finish without metallic 'flakes'?  I heard about something called Design Master Premium Metallic 24k pure gold aerosol spray.  Can't find anyone who has ever used it.

2. How do I add a very light black powder tarnish and patina after I get the brass look I want?  Light dusting of powdered graphite?

For reference, I'm making a wood 1:1 scale Volcanic carbine...because I can't afford $20 grand for a real one.

Thanks for any answers, advice, suggestions, or general comments.
