Can anyone give a review of the Iwata Ninja Jet compressor?  Is it powerful enough for plastic model work, any pros/cons?   Any help greatly appreciated!!!

The Iwata Ninja Jet compressor is overpriced and underpowered in comparison to other offers on the market. It will work fine for watercolor painting, cosmetics and cake decoration using water based paints. It is very portable if you take the airbrush equipments around. Ninja Jet can also work for modeling, but not very versatile. Both the Ninja and their Silver Jet are underpowered for modeling.

If you want to stay with the Iwata brand of compressors, look at their Power Jet Light for serious modeling tasks. The Iwata Sprint Jet and Smart Jet have enough power for modeling but both have drawbacks. The Sprint Jet has NO auto-on-off and it is annoying to have the motor running continuously. The Smart Jet uses a by-pass type pressure regulator that does not work well for low pressure setting.

Take a look at the Sparmax brand if you want Iwata quality at a lower price.

Shocap,

I can't give a review because I don't have a Ninja Jet but just to add to what Keilau posted, be aware that the Ninja Jet doesn't have a pressure gauge and it only goes to 18PSI with brush attached and these factors would be a drawback to many. It's probably a nice little compressor but with some limitations. There are some video demos of the Ninja Jet on YouTube if you take a look- just search 'Ninja Jet'.

I recently bought the Sparmax TC2000 compressor and have been very pleased with it.  Nice regulator and pressure gauge, tool  You can get them at Hobby Lobby with the 40% off coupon.  Still not cheap, but a fine piece of equipment.

Gimme a pigfoot, and a bottle of beer...

Thank you everyone for your insight!  You all were spot-on about the Ninja Jet!  I don't think you could decorate a cake with that thing!!!

I went with the Sparmax two-cylinder, using the 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby.

Thanks again!!!

For the small delta in price, you made a very wise decision. Let us know how the Sparmax works out for you.
