Mr. Surfacer alternatives

Thanks for the insight - While I am back in to the building hobby on a new basis, I had hoped to primarily spray Acrylics for my models when possible - is this MM enamel primer OK to then overcoat Acrylics?

Are there any paint chemistires it is not comaptible with?

im with doogs on this one. i only use tamiya and mr.surfacer. MM enamel out of the bottle as well.

You can decant Tamiya's rattlecan primers and spray them through an airbrush. They'll thin down with lacquer thinner (recommend either Tamiya's own or Gunze stuff).

Personally, if I can't get my hands on Mr. Surfacer (not a problem at the moment since I stocked up), IMO the best primer in terms of performance, bite, consistency etc is Model Master gray enamel primer. The stuff rocks the house, and unlike Tamiya or Mr. Surfacer there's no need for a polishing sand.

It also comes in rattle cans which are fine if you use a light touch when spraying.  I think it is as good as Mr. Surfacer.

Tamiya Liquid Surface Primer (in the 40ml jar) is quite similar to Mr Surfacer, but it only comes in one grade (which is quite fine). It does come in two different colours though (grey or white).

If you use (airbrushing) Mr. Surfacer as a primer, Alclad Grey Primer is a good alternative.
