That's the best way to tell when the paint is dry/cured, it doesn't smell anymore.

On the rare occasions when I have had this happen, it is usually gone within a day. Two at most. And I am like Tex, an unrepantant die hard enamel fan/user...

I had to chuckle a bit when I read your question.  Seriously, we're talking about a model tank right?  I assume 1/35 scale but even if bigger, how can the smell produced by no more enamel than it takes to paint a model that size even be noticeable really?   We must be talking about the very slightest odor here.  Perhaps my years as a painter have left me somewhat jaded.  In fact, I rather enjoy the smell of freshly brushed alkyd enamel.   It's the smell of fresh and new (not to mention moneyWink).   I use nothing but enamel on my 1/48 model aircraft and I don't even notice a smell after they're painted.  Wow, you must have a very sensitive nose my friend...

Yeah, enamel can take a week, sometimes closer to two, to fully dry and harden.

The choice of paint type should include more factors than just smell.

it'll go away once it's entirely dry... It may seem like it is already, but it's not. Enamels generally take much longer to fully cure than acrylics.

Enamel paint on tank = Will the smell go away ?

Hello everyone,

I airbrushed my M1 Abrams tank yesterday with a Testors enamel paint.

The model still smells a bit today. Question is, does the smell eventually disappear ?

On hindsight, i should have used acrylic paints.
