anyway to de-fog
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, February 15, 2004 9:03 PM
I've got some models that I built awhile ago when I wasn't experienced enough to cover up my windows properly before applying my dullcotes. Of course the windows got all fogged up from the lacquer. Does anyone know a way to remove that ugly fog from the windows? The models were built and painted pretty well and if I'm able to get rid of that fog then they would look so much better.

Hi,
You can´t de-fogg windows anyway, no more. It´s not possible. Only solution is substitute windows with fine transparent acetate, when possible ; this is not always simple but... always avoid use laquers, organic solvent , plastic cement or cyanocrilate type glue near transparent parts. If fogged, no solution !!!
Hope this help, despite my bad english!!

Trekki:-
Since the windows are already fogged up anyway, try this: tape off one of the windows and sand it down very smooth. Clean with isopropyl alcohol, let dry, then apply a coat of Future. If one coat doesn't work, try a second. In theory that should work, but I've never tried it.

You might try sanding the canopy/window with 1200 grit sandpaper or finer, then polish with toothpaste or one of the Novus plastic polishing products, then finish with Future.

Another option, for a canopy, may be to get a replacement and start over.

Depends on how much time and $$$$'s you want to expend.

Good luck.

so when painting with dullcote, is it wise to take the clear parts off in order to prevent fogging, or should tape on the windows + a coat of future protect it if it was exposed to laquer?

If the clear parts are masked so that no paint gets on it, then the dullcote will not fog the clear.
