get some cheapo pc fans and a 12v power supply (if youre using alot of fans then use a car battery and charge it every now and then)

when dealing with power supplies current rating is important you need to add all the current ratings of the fans up (1000 ma = 1 amp) if a fan draws 800 ma and you have 4 of them the power supply needs to be rated at 3200 ma or 3.2a or youll be stressing the power suplly and it will get hot.

thats why i mentioned a car battery because they are perfectly happy with high current drain

So far, it seems to me that the fans I need are $80+ and that's too much for me to spend... I'm thinking about spraying outside but the weather in Michigan is pretty humid all year round. I seriously don't know what to do, I might have to head to Home Depot and ask the employees for a brushless fan.

There are a "ton" of threads here on FSM regarding DIY spray booths.

Try to Google either "small spray booths" or "small paint spray booths"  and you will find a lot of information and ever plans for them. (I had to use Bing because Google appears to be down right now - getting the 404 message)

I made mine with a 1x2 frame work then covered that with 3/8" osb then covered that with some cheap wall paneling I had on hand. It's 33"wide 22"deep 20"high. This is plenty big enough for even the biggist models for the exchust fan I used a standard furnace blower fan and motor vented outside thru a dryer vent kit works great total cost for booth $10.00 for dryer vent.      ACESES5

You can use almost anything for a container.  I used to use cardboard boxes in my first few spray booths.  Then I moved to particle board.  My last particle board booth- a keeper- I modified to make it easier to clean.  I added 1/8 inch panels to side panels and floor panel (rear of booth is the furnace filter).  These panels are simply screwed into particle board structure with sheet metal screws.  I covered the surface of these panels with white contact paper.  When they get too cruddy- covered with paint- I remove them and replace the contact paper- I then have a fresh, bright interior again.

Questions on DIY Spray Booths

Let me start off this topic by saying what I plan to use the airbrush for.

I will be using all kinds of paint. Acrylics, enamels, lacquers… You name it. I have no knowledge of building a spray booth, so I be may asking simple questions.

1. Can I just use a cheap plastic container from Walmart as the base or the body of the booth? I will be painting model cars and model figures called Gundams that will range from 5 to 12 inches tall.

2. How should I know how much CFM's I need in order to suck out all of the fumes? I might be using computer fans because as far as I know they don't produce sparks, but if you guys can show me some good powerful fans that have brushless motors (don't produce sparks) then I might use those instead because enamels and lacquers can combust.

I don't want to spend too much money on a spray booth but if it can extract all the fumes safely then I would be happy. I was originally going to use a box fan but those aren't as safe and they can combust.
