Can Future be applied with a paint brush?
Posted by Chrisk-k on Thursday, March 7, 2013 8:00 PM

I bought Future for the 1st time today. I plan to only topically apply Future for decals.

Is it true that Future can be well applied with a paint brush?  I could airbrush it but want to avoid a hassle if possible.

I've always applied Future with a brush and usually just where I'm going to put the decals.

Yep..I believe it can.

I don't own an airbrush, so I have no choice.

Yep, I apply it that way often. Works fine.

Most certainly you can apply it with a brush. Future is known for it's excellent self levelling qualities. So brush marks and such are not an issue as everything will smooth out by itself.

Brushing it on will however tend to naturally lay on thicker coats as opposed to airbrushing it on. You will subsequently have a more shiny surface.

Do you thin Future when applying it with a brush?  I think I've read somewhere that it shouldn't be thinned.  I just want to double-check.

I do it both ways, brush on some models (or spots), and airbrush on others

I don't have to thin it either way, one tip about brushing it on is to not use too large a brush, or if you do use a 1/4" flat, unload it some so you don't get a flood of Future

some people also provide a means of letting any excess get off of the model, to avoid pooling,,,,,,,,but, if you put it on thin enough, you won't have that happen

also, you don't need a "very high gloss" finish to apply decals, one SG coat of Future is enough,,,,,,,,,decals are designed thin enough to go over 'some' highs and lows, so a slightly not perfect gloss is enough

if you get a "bad spot" when your Future is dry or nearly dry, don't worry,,,,,,,,,after you let it dry for a full day, you can sand a bit on the offending spot and then reapply Future to that place,,,,,it will blend in just like the "perfect" coat you laid down on the rest of your model

almost gone

I've brushed it on before and put a drop or 2 of windex in the dish just to thin it a tad.
