Tamiya Clear TS-13 Substitute?
Posted by Kugai on Monday, March 11, 2013 10:43 PM

Tamiya has discontinued their TS-13 ( Gloss Clear ) that I've gotten used to, and I'm looking for something to use in its place.

Before anyone mentions the most obvious and readily-available brand, I've used the Testors Glosscote in the past and preferred Tamiya's because it not only dried faster, but also lacked the slight yellowing effect of the Testors type.

Any suggestions?

Really? I was unaware of this. Disturbing news indeed as I like their glosscote. Although I personally have never encountered the yellowing effect from Testors I preferred the Tamiya clear coats. An alternative I might suggest is the Alclad line of either lacquer or acrylic based gloss coats. I just received a bottle of the acrylic and have yet to try it. As far as the lacquer based goes it dries very quickly and is quite durable.
