Is this air compressor suitable for plastic models
Posted by jbdoggy on Sunday, June 23, 2013 8:58 AM

Hi all,

Been browsing around & trying to get acquainted with air brushing equipment. So far I think what seems to be a reasonably priced compressor is as follows: http://airbrush.sg/compressor/mini-air-compressor-ead-b81.html

By looking at the specs, & especially the pressure ratings, can anyone advise if this is a suitable model?

Thanks

What IS the pressure?  You need at least 15-20 minimum for airbrushing.  Figure at least a 5 psi drop through regulator, so you probably need the compressor to put out about 25 to 30, at least.  Most regulators will accept up to about 100 psi max, so high pressure is usually not an issue. If the compressor does not have a regulator you will need to add one.

The vendor seems to specialize on low cost made-in-China equipment, but they do not provide information on who is their supplier. You can get decent equipment from the better manufacturer from China such as Fenghua Bida if you get their top of the line model. Unfortunately, most seller do not provide information on their supplier and it is possible that they get it from one of the small guy. The equipment looks identical, but there is a world of difference inside.

The model you picked should work ok if it is from a good supplier in China. The seller did not provide the most important spec which is the flowrate (CFM) at nominal pressure (PSI). Telling the flowrate at 0 (zero) pressure and the pressure at no flow are not the true story.

On the safe side, I will recommend staying with established brand names. If you are in Singapore, you should be able to find a Sparmax dealer easily. Cost a little more than the Chinese gears, but you get the peace of mind.

Well said!  The Chin-A company will sell you anything you are willing to part with money to get.  And you got a great price!  When it breaks, take it back to China to get it fixed!
