Dupli-Color - Grease And Wax Remover
Posted by mitsdude on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 12:36 AM

Has anyone used a product called "Dupli-Color - Grease And Wax Remover" as a plastic prep before painting?

I'm helping a buddy repaint his car. He is using this product as a final step before painting. The label says it works on plastic but of course doesn't say what kind of plastic.

He's going to give me what remains in the bottle after he finishes. I'll test it of a scrap model and post the results.

Yes, I have used it.  However, I was pretty worried about using it so I really hurried to wipe it on and get it off.  I generally do NOT use it.  I find a mild detergent/water mix works fine for most plastic kits.  Sometimes to ensure I have gotten all the detergent off I will use a bit of denatured alcohol afterwards.  Or, sometimes if I suspect too much finger oil or mold release I will just use the alcohol.  If for some reason I suspect wax on the plastic, that is when I may resort to the degreaser/dewaxer.

As Don says above, I find a mild detergent/water mix works fine, or lighter-fuel for resin parts if they feel waxy or greasy
