Thats why a lot of us lighten our colors beforehand so that the clearcoating, filtering, and weathering doesn't darken the basecoat too much.I find I need to do this especially with Dunkelgelb

Any gloss coat has the same effect on flat base colors. The flat top coat will reduce this but not completely.

Future Darkens Base Color?
Posted by Chrisk-k on Thursday, December 12, 2013 7:05 PM

I just applied Future on a WWII German AFV model (a 1/35 Hetzer).  It noticeably darkened Dark Yellow base coat.  I applied Future on a few WWII Russian AFV models in the past but didn't notice its darkening effect (probably because Dark Green is already dark enough).

My questions are, "Is Future supposed to darken the base color?" and "Will a matte varnish restore the original base color?"
