2 tone gray what do you use?
Posted by Vince on Sunday, December 15, 2013 10:21 PM

I'm building a MV-22 Osprey and it calls for a two color gray scheme, which is quite common. Top color is dark ghost gray and bottom is light ghost gray. my issue is that it is very difficult to see any difference in the colors after i have painted. From photos you can see a subtle difference. I'm using MM. What colors are you folks using for 2 tone gray. I should add that when brushing the colors are more apparent then when I air brush them.

Thanks,

Vince

Looks like two shades that just a smidge:

When I have airbrushed the colors, there has been enough of difference in the tone of the two.

In what order are you laying them down?   If you aren't already, always do the lighter shade first, and place the darker one on top.

Another problem might be the demarcation between the two.  When airbrushing freehand, the overspray could be creating too much blending, while brushing it by hand leaves a hard edge that is much easier to detect.

Jack

Looks like as Jack stated I was free handing the airbrushing and most have had to much overspary which really blurred the lines. On the engine cowls I decided to tape the demarcation using a little elevation in the tape as to not create a hard demarc and the results are what I expected. You can clearly see the two colors. Another lesson to add to my "what not to do list". Since beauty is the eye of the beholder I might not just leave it this way.

For what its worth other kits that I have built from Italeri have had better quality then this one, V-22 Osprey. I could a list of issue on another thread.

This what I like about this forum I usually get good responses in record time. Thanks ALL.
