How do you pant the desert camo?
Posted by sgt1255 on Saturday, December 21, 2013 7:18 PM

Today I tried to paint the figures form my Tamiya M1A2 OIF model. The Abrams itself is basically complete except for all of the weathering.

How do you paint the three color desert camo?  I did my base coat in Tamiya Buff, Dark Yellow, and brown strips but it looks terrible. The strips look totally wrong and the dark yellow seems to light because I can barely see them. I googled and I was a 1/35 scale figure that just had the brown strips and it looked pretty good. How do you all do the stripes?

All the help I can get is much appreciated.

Personally I would not have used those colors as they are not very close to the DCU colors. But a light yellowish sand, a light pinkish sand, and light earth would be the colors of choice. Do the two sand tones first and the earth tone last.. After you have everything painted, including body armor and web gear, a nice drybrushing of a different sand color to blend it all together and give that dusty look so typical of desert soldiers.

Having raced in the desert for years I can guarantee you there was a lot of panting. Or....... you meant painting! Sorry but it was just too obvious. Good luck with your painting and best regsrds for the Holidays.
