Spray it flat white first, as a primer, then a coat or two of gloss white with plenty of drying time in between if the extra coats are needed. Pack it full of tissue then mask off for the intake lip color.

I agree with Pawel. If it is a long assembly I would paint it before assembly and then if the exterior is a different color I pack tissue in intakes to keep the exterior paint out.

i would be tempted to paint them flat white and then coat with future to give the gloss finish, trying to spray gloss white in a confined are will tend to run, i find matt white can be sprayed with more control. im working on these, they are filled sanded sprayed with thick mr surfacer 500. these are only small though. ill be spraying them flat white/black and dipping the whole thing in future. ill sand off the outside to remove the future which i hope will leave a nice shiny clean intake.

Yeah, if they are already assembled, that makes things somewhat hard - the access is so bad and the angles are funny, too. That's why it's a good idea to paint the intakes while they are more accessible, that is only partially built up. I had to cut the front parts of the engine nacelles off to fill the seam and paint the intakes right, then glued the painted subassemblies back on.

Hope you can paint your model all right, have a nice day

Hello!

Recently I did my intakes. Got something like this:

The parts were gray plastic. First I sprayed on a coat of Humbrol 11 (silver). Then, after it dried somewhat (days), I sprayed on a coat of Humbrol 22 (gloss white). That did the trick. Hope it helps, good luck with your project and have a nice day

Hey all! So, I'm working on a F-22 and need to figure out how I can get these damn intakes painted!! I've read a lot the last couple weeks of using latex paint and I have it a shot last night....10 minutes later, I was washing it all away in my kitchen sink because I was not impressed at all with the looks!!

Just wondering what all of your approaches are to painting intakes gloss white?!?!?
