spray booth

Hey all, I am want to build a spray booth, and i'm looking for some ideas on how to do it. I thought about using a large storage tote(clear), and brushless vent fans. Are brushless fans explosion proof, or should i go with a shaded pole blower? I would like to keep it around $100.00. Any thoughts you guys have will help.                                                            Thanks, Charley

Unless you need a big booth, buy a booth for around $80 at Amazon.

As long as the fan is brushless you will be ok. There's many threads around about booths, here's mine.

I've read while I searched about the same thing that a lot of people suggested using vent fans like you'd have in your bathroom along with a lint tube/hose that connects to your clothes dryer as the way to remove excess paint in the air.  You can build one using a 4x8 sheet of plywood and your imagination.  Don't forget to cut out for your tube light.  I'd also buy the paper that's sold for the paint booth you see selling for 400 plus bucks.  You can make your own device to hold the paper.  Just suggestions you might consider.

I have found muffin fans better for spray booths than vent fans.  They are  lighter and easier to mount..  They are brushless.

I used to use LED strip in booth MK1 but after mounting the vent fan direct to the back of clear plastic storage box (MK2 with no ply board) I didn't need the led's but I do have my box in the window so I get plenty of natural light.

For lighting, I cut a slot in the top of my latest booth and fastened a strip type fluorescent fixture above the slot. Now the problem is to keep paint from drifting up on to the fixture. I covered the bottom of the slot with a piece of plexiglas.  Then I made tear-offs like racing drivers and motorcycle racers use. I laid up strips of clear packing tape, one on top of another.  At the end of each strip I folded back about a half inch to create a tab. I stuck this stack on the bottom of the plexiglas.  When the bottom strip collects too much paint I grab the tab and pull that strip off, leaving a clean one underneath.  I stick on about five strips at a time so I don't have to replace all that often.

great idea using the "tear off" strips of tape!
