Painting over Future?
Posted by o2jmpr08 on Saturday, March 1, 2014 10:40 PM
Could someone please tell me if it's ok to paint over Future? I have a large important piece that I've painted with acrylics thinned with future. I want to clear it with future and see how well the color matches my project, but if it doesn't, I'll need to respray the paint but don't want to use ammonia to remove the future or else I'll lose my base coat with it. If it's ok to paint over, should it be sanded first for adhesion or just wiped clean? Thanks for your help in advance!

It should be fine painting over future, in fact some people have used it as a primer (including me).
You can paint over future with acrylics and even laquer paints. I once used future as a barrier between bare plastic and a laquer based primer to keep the primer from eating into the plastic, and it worked great for me, just make sure the future has plenty of time to cure.
If your painting with acrylic over future there shouldn't be a problem as future is an acrylic.
