Resin ejection seats?!?!?
Posted by Kitfox on Monday, March 24, 2014 12:20 AM
So here I am, after decades of building and still frustrated with resin ejection seat painting. I just can't figure it out! How are these seats made with the flowing belts and the depth I see others accomplishing?
Does anyone know of a place to turn for good advice on ejection seat painting specifically? Books? Articles? Websites? Anyone near Portland willing to demonstrate?
HELP!!!!!

Simple methods get me best results. Research the seat first to see what colors you will need with image searches. Choose your appropriate colors and paint the base colors. Add washes to accentuate depth and shadows. Finally, drybrush highlights.

Hello!

Like Stik said, it's important to get a good idea how the model (it's a very general advice) is supposed to look like after painting. Once that is clear, the painting gets really easier. Also, a fine brush and lots of practice can't hurt you neither Big Smile Good luck with your projects, have a nice day

the charts and illustrations on these two sites might be of help to you when it comes to choosing seats for an aircraft, or for painting the seats after you have them

Thank you all for the info!

Regarding washes.  What wash mixtures over what types of paint are you using?  I usually paint with Tamiya acryl and wash with artist's oils with lighter fluid thinner.

If I know I will be doing washes, I like to use acrylics for the base color (on a resin seat I first prime with an enamel or other non acrylic primer), and then washes using enamels. Usually Burnt Umber thinned with hardware store generic paint thinner. I have not yet ventured into oil paints.
