I'm a bit of a way off , starting the victory's decking., could someone show me the best way to colour the deck and how , so I can practice the technique please., I'm not sure should I paint it and how to go about it., as I, really want it to look good ., or should I stain it , and the best way to go about this ., I really do need help on this one guy's thank's.,

Warships had decks that were not stained (except by the environment) because they were sanded with a stone frequently, so the deck should look like natural wood freshly cut/sanded.  This means they should be lighter than often depicted, and with the grain less prominent.  A light tan is a good approximation, with maybe just a tint more yellow.  This is paint, not stain.  It is hard to stain styrene with very light colored stains.  And, it should be matt, not glossy.
