Thanks Fly!  I knew I forgot some bit of info.  I was just going to work with the "regular" metalics, not the high shine stuff.

Are you spraying the High Shine colors or the regular colors?  If its the regular shine colors then you don't need any special under coat.  You can spray it right over the Tamiya primer.  Just make it as smooth as possible to get the best results with your Alclad II.

If you are using the high shine colors then you will definitely want some kind of gloss black base.  I recommend using Alclad's own Gloss Black Base.  It works really well and dries in minutes.  Whatever problems you may have heard about in the past have long since been fixed.

BTW, you can seal the Alclad II paints with their Aqua Gloss...even the high shine colors...and mask over them.

Alclad base/under coat

Hi guys,

I was thinking of using a few different shades of grey (no, not 50 of them) as a base coat for Alclad.  Can I use Model Master enamels as a base coat?  I plan on applying the Alclad in light mist coats but I was wondering if it would still eat away at the enamel.

My other train of thought was just applying Alclad over the Tamiya grey primer coat that I've already applied.  Then I'd mask off the various panels afterwards and paint the different shades.

Which method do you think would work better?

Thanks!

Eric
