Thanks Don-looks good.
I'm getting ready to prime the tires and I'm going to try your method-just not sure if I'll go with the dark gray or black primer.....hmmm

Okay, here is the shot of one of the dry brushed wheels.
Actually, I think the far wheel shows off the effect better- the glare on the near one tends to obscure the effect.

mississippivol That sounds interesting. Did you drybrush the sidewalls heavier than the tread?

Yep!
And the kit is getting quite close to finish, so will post some pics when done- I'll zero in on wheels for one of the shots.
Don, Sounds like you found a way to eliminate some steps. So, the drybrushing avoids the graininess of a thin airbrush spray or the hassle of multiple washes? I'd also love to see a pic.
Sounds interesting but I'd have to see some pics to judge whether or not I think it looks good.

Don,
Could you post a pic? Sounds like an interesting & easy way to get that worn tire look.
Thanks
I tried a new trick last night on tire painting. I had primed tires with my usual primer of Krylon primer, a medium to dark gray. I was going to paint it flat black with a brush, and then weather with something else. I tried dry brushing the flat black on the gray primer, and it worked fine- looks very nice. This allowed me to darken the tire, but not all the way to a real black. Looks nicely weathered in one step.
