Side Feed Airbrushes and their Cups
Posted by ShanaSakai on Monday, June 2, 2014 7:06 PM

First off, I'd like to really thank the guys who helped me choose the airbrush to buy, my Krome and Badger 350 arrived today, and I am absolutely loving them. That being said, while I do have my Rich AB-300 so I can switch color fasters, I am now interested in side feed airbrush with cups that are gravity fed, and so I got alot of questions. My best option would be the Renegade Spirit, as it is very similar to the Krome and it's cup is gravity fed, just plugged into the side like Don mentions. Unfortunately Chicago AB doesn't sell the cup so I have to buy it from Coast Airbrush. I am however also looking at the Iwata Eclipse HP-SBS as a backup as it also has two needle size (I like airbrushes that can use than more than one needle size) and has this cup.

Also I heard that the Pre-set handle that Iwata sells here http://www.chicagoairbrushsupply.com/presethafori.html will also work with the eclipse, if someone could confirm that would be nice (I love the needle limiters).

However that seem to make it a bit expensive, so I am also looking at the old 100 SF, as it has 3 needle sizes, a trigger limiter, but the big question is that as I want a cup that's like a gravity feed like the spirit, would the iwata cup as mentioned above fit in the 100SF? I know the Spirit one won't as it's bigger.

Thanks for spending time on reading this guys and I look forward to your advice.

That pre-set handle won't work with the Eclipse.  Coast has another one for the Eclipse.

Hi Chrisk good thing I asked first, so it's part I-155-2 on www.coastairbrush.com/eclipseparts.asp ? Also got another question that just popped up, I heard the Rich AB-300 is basically a Iwata HP-C, so does that mean the .3mm needle and also the pre-set handle for the Iwata HP-C will fit in the AB 300? Reason I asked is cause there doesn't seem to be a way to get the parts here in Canada.

I have three Iwata ABs - HP-B+, HP-CS and HP-CR. I have an I-155-2 for my HP-CR and an original preset handle for my HP-CS. Mind you, I don't use the pre-set handles; they are there to give me psychological security. I don't know anything about the Rich. Keep in mind that ABs are ultra delicate machines. A 0.001 mm difference can make an AB go wrong.

Post your questions at theairbrushforum.com.  It's a very active forum, where highly knowledgeable professional AB artists will answer your questions.  I've read about a Canadian AB store that people rave about at the forum. The store owner posts there.  I forgot the store name, but you can find it there.

Hi Chrisk thanks for the fast response, I'll get the I-155-2 for the HP-SBS that I plan on getting on later than. Maple Airbrush supplies wouldn't happen to be the Canadian AB store you're talking about right? Nice company, Iwata only, but fits my bill, I'll post my question about the AB-300 on the airbrushforum, I have an account there, thanks again!
