Ok, I too have done the X-21 with Future mix ending with mixed results for FLAT finish. Ratio of X-21 to Future does NOT seem to directly translate to a flatter or less flat finish.

I read in another forum that mixing cornstarch with Future will give a nice flat finish. True or False??

Bill.

On the bench:  Lindberg 1/32 scale 1934 Ford Coupe and a few rescue projects.

In queue:  Tamiya 1/35 Quad Tractor or a scratch build project.

I mix Tamiya X21 flat base with Future.  Never had a problem & I can vary the matte effect with the mixture.

I've sprayed dullcoat over Future with no issues. My Future problems have always come from weathering with oils.

WWI aircraft make up about 90% of my builds, and for all of them I use Alclad II flat or semi-matte.  No issues whatsoever spraying it over cured Future.

Use an acrylic matt varnish like AK, Vallejo or W&N.

What to use for Matte finishes? Castrol Super Clean strips off enamel paint

After just suffering a problem with Testors glosscote ruining my 1/32nd scale Albatross, I am now asking what do WWI airplane builders use as their final matte finish. If I spray future over the model to seal the decals and the Humbrol gloss red finish, can I then use a Testors Dullcote or something else.?I am assuming that the Future coat will seal my paint but will I have the same problem with Dull Coat? What do all you WWI bi-plane builders use as your final coat? I don't want another disaster. By the way, I used Castrol Super Clean, the purple bottle, to strip off the enamel paint and it worked perfectly. However it works quickly so you don't need to soak it over night or the plastic will soften.
