Tamiya acrylic paints. I was using the base coat as a primer also. Should have a separate primer?

You might have been scraping too hard.  Or the base coat wasn't sticking to the plastic very well in the first place.  

What kind of paint did you use?  Was the surface primed?

Hairspray method

Tried the hairspray method on some scrap parts from the article in the latest magazine. Put on base coat and let dry, then put on hairspray and let dry. Put on top coat and let dry. Tried lightly scrapping off top coat to base coat but it went down to original plastic finish. Do you not let top coat dry completely, or was I scraping too hard? Thanks.
