Air Compressor for Air Brushing Newbie Question
Posted by Slyder69 on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 11:07 AM

Hi Everyone,
I'm still a newbie for the air brushing and I bought a Paasche Air Compressor with tank and water trap.

My question is do you keep the air in the tank when you are finished or do you drain it and pump it back up the next time you are working?

Thanks,
Mike  Tongue Tied

I drain mine every time. When I finish painting, I just use the unused air to clean.

Mike,

It is not really necessary every time you use it. I would just disconnect your air brush line. Depending upon your environment and use..draining the tank, maybe once a week would not be a bad idea. I can't see draining my 60gal tank in my garage, every time I used it. Besides if you leave the air in the tank and come back later and find your tank empty....you'll know you have a leak. Big Smile

Take Care!

I'll pull the release valve on the bottom of the tank from time to time to check for water buildup but I don't normally drain it completely.

Thanks Everyone.  I'll keep it full for now while I'm painting more and when I'm not I'll drain it.

Is there a little confusion here: I think Mike (OP) was asking about residual air in the tank after he had finished a painting session and NOT about draining the tank of any moisture that may have gotten into the tank during the session. Personally I use residual to clean and if any air left push the regulator drain valve to empty the tank - pressure in tank reads zero - after each session. I drain the tank of any moisture frequently but not each time. I know that large compressors have  a 'head unloader' but our little AB compressors don't and I think it's good practice to de-pressure the tank after use. YMMV
