"Fibers" on surface when straying varnish?! My model needs a shave...

Hey All,

So I'm using Golden's Hard MSA Varnish for the 1st time. I'm thinning it to a 1:1 with mineral spirits (as per Golden's instruction.)

Unfortunately, I'm getting what appears to be fibers sicking straight out of my newly varnished model. It occurs to me that the varnish is drying on the way to the models surface and thus creating these hairs.

Does that jive with your collective experiences? Do i need to drop my PSI (I've been using between 20 and 30 PSI), change up my ratio? Could it be humidity? It's not terribly humid down in my basement, but it's not necessarily dry either.

Thanks!

Yes, I'd try a lower pressure. I always stay between fifteen and twenty.  Also, any chance you are spraying in a dusty location?  A drying box may help.

Hey Don, thank you for your response. I'll drop my PSI.

I'd say the basement is dusty-ish (according to what I see in the light of my task lamp) but not terribly so. The fibers don't seem to be of any significant substance, so I don't think it's dust.
