masking a complex paint scheme
Posted by Razor04 on Monday, July 21, 2014 6:14 PM
I was looking for some advice.

I have 1/32 p-51 I'm starting and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on masking the diamond back scheme used by the 356th fighter group.

Or if anyone knows of decals for it in 1/32 that will work too

Hi, Razor - I'm not sure if you're describing the red and black diamond pattern on the nose top, if so there was an article in FSM not long ago with photos of a P-51 that had that pattern, in decal form. Someone here should be able to lead you to that article, and let you know if the decals are available in 1:32 scale. Masking it would be a chore, but doable. Hope it helps.

Hey razor, if you were doing 1/48 you would be in luck. Aeromaster made 5 different sheets of the 356th FG. BEAUTIFULLY done as well. Unfortunately, I don't believe they produced them in 1/32.

No worries. But I am not sure where you will find them in the US. I tried Sprue Brothers and they did not have any. There used to be a site over there that had a large range of Microscale decals, many OOP ones, but the site seems to have gone. Ordering from Hannants might be a bit costly. let me know how you get on.
