Duck Egg Blue, Testors 1722

I used Duck Egg Blue on my Enterprise.  No complains.  Mixing to create Light Duck Egg Blue as per instructions worked out as well.  Having said that, I have had bad jars from Testors, where the colour is off from one jar to the next.

"Duck Egg Blue" should actually be named "Easter Egg Blue". I bought some for a build only because it was on the list....and I've yet to open the bottle and probably never will.

You'll need to look around for all of the Refit posts, but there are tons to look through. Unfortunately, I'm probably opening a can of worms here for you. One visit to the site and I was hooked. I have a TOS Enterprise sitting on deck as my next build (full lighting) and can't imagine doing it without consulting this site.

If you have the time, go to YouTube and type in "Trekworks" into the search feature. This is the channel for the guy who started the website. He has a ton of builds on his channel, from Refits to Lost In Space kits.....basically anything SciFi. You'll get a good idea about what colors he, and just about everyone else uses. His Aztec details are nothing short of amazing.

I've not seen "Duck Egg Blue" being used. I think most everyone uses a shade of gray.

Go check out these sites. You'll probably change your approach a dozen times before you settle on what works.

Duck Egg Blue for underside of an F4U-1? I'd go with a really light grey color instead. Unless you're painting it with RAF colors.

I bought a bottle of duck egg blue, intending to use it on the underside of an F4U-1 Corsair, instead of the stark white called for.  I didn't like it either, it had a greenish tint to it.  Never used it for anything.  Don't take the color instructions too seriously; most of the manufacturers don't know what they are talking about.

If you have a decent image editing program (photo or paint program) you can scan two images.  Most of these programs will analyze a color for you.  Use the color picker to sample the color and the computer will show you the red, blue and green components.

Do what I like to do. Do a paint finger swatch using your finger on a sheet of paper and compare the two colors. Make your determination from there. Comparing them on a computer screen won't give you a true color.

I see what you mean Dave, it appears more a sky blue or light turquoise here on my monitor rather than light green, I went to my draw and found Humbrol 65 aircraft blue but it's still not quite right. I would try what they say with a light behind it if there is one but apart from that you might just have to find a colour that you are happy with or mix a bit of this with that to get what you want. Never noticed those lights were blue and I'm a treky tragic, 1701 in the first motion picture was a bit different from the original.

Colour matching is hard to get perfect because of the variations in monitors and cameras, tv's and throw into the mix that that photo is someone else's work that you assume has been done to what the instructions say...or has it? you see where I'm going, I pick a photo that I like and get as close as I can.

Not a bad suggestion, but where I'm looking is more at the bridge area as a main example.  Here is the main pic that I'm basing this on, from the Round 2/Polar Lights site.

It's obviously a finished model, but has no lighting added to it.  I just double checked the instructions and that area calls for both Duck Egg and Light Duck Egg blue.  The pic definitely looks blue to me, however as I said, the bottle from Testors definitely doesn't when dried.

Love to make this one day, is it for the main deflector or nacelles? I'm thinking it might be right when there's light behind it maybe? if you take photo's along the way I would love to see them.
