Compressor help needed!
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, March 1, 2004 9:37 PM
Hi Guys and Gals.

Currently looking at purchasing a new compressor, there are 2 models that are of interest to me. See pics below:

The Airtek features a small tank, auto-cutoff feature, which the junair seems to be lacking. The Airtek is also about 60% of the price of the Junair one,

Pls, gimme me your recommendations and good bad points about each compressor.

That's a tough choice MMF, but I think that if the Airtex unit is a high quality unit then I would choose it as it has a shut-off pressure switch and an air tank.
It kind of looks like one of the Badger or Iwata units although it's hard to tell without seeing it.

Mike.

From what I have seen it is quiet similiar to the Iwata one.

My LHS also sells the Airtek airbrushes, so I am not really worried about spares and like.
I kinda lean towards the airtek now it also uses oil, is VERY quiet and the box shape make it easy to store under the desk.

The Guy in the shop said that the Jun-air is more powerful, but that it tends to get hot if run it too long, my current compressor needs to be shut off after 15 minutes to cool down (oil-less)

FYI, I inquired about the Oil for the WAVE(Jun-Air) 517 they sell the Jun-Air oil in the plastic bottle for it, $45 a pop over here.

Those are pretty good units from what I hear.

Those are all good qualities.

That is what's bad about no pressure shut-off switch or holding tank.
The duty cycle of silent compressors is 50% which means that the compressor should be off as long as it is on in order to last. If you exceed the duty cycle it gets hot as you said yours does and that shortens the life of the compressor. Sad [:(]

Ouch! [:0] I told you that stuff was expensive. I don't know what's in it but for that price it better contain platinum. Laugh [(-D]

Keep us informed as to what you buy my friend.
