Air Brush Lube?
Posted by plasticjunkie on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 10:54 AM

I have been using air brushing for many years and have never heard of a AB lube till the other day. Badger Needle Juice was recommended but it seems to be sold out just about every where I have checked. Someone recommended Glycerin from the drug store which he says will do the same thing, keeping paint from sticking to the inside and providing a smoother needle glide.

Any thoughts about using this lube/glycerin product?

First thing that comes to mind is, are you having problems with paint residue and needle sticking? I've also used an AB for a lot of years and have had very few issues, just the usual routine replacement of worn needles, seals and stuff. I'll do a complete teardown every so often and put a very light smear of vaseline on contact surfaces and seals, but never on an area where it could mix in with the paint. Glycerin might also work well.

I tend to be very suspicious of products that solve problems that I don't have, or didn't know that I might have, but I'm also open to improvement. Maybe someone has used the Juice and can provide their experience?

My 2 cents....

Been reading that Badger had a bad batch of Regdab, and I'm guessing that's why it is out of stock everywhere? (assuming legitimate resellers would have pulled the defective product from their shelves)

So I'm waiting for it to appear at my usual sources. And waiting, And waiting.

Hi all.

I've posted before about this, have used the Badger "Regdab" for some time, first batch was the one with the erroneous mix, replaced with the good one. The first one caused moderate sticking as it aged, this one performs perfectly. Main benefit I find is how much better the needle slides through the bearing surface, absolutely noticeable as improved versus no lube.

This is not to say the needle to bearing fit was a real problem before, it was indeed not a severe impediment to spraying, this just makes it better if application is in a dual action airbrush, it just gives a sense that makes the trigger feel lighter and smoother in it's action.

I'm sold on it, I apply a tiny film to all threaded surfaces and the needle area that sits in the bearing. I have experienced no problems with compatibility issues, using the products I paint with. I rate it a good and useful product, I recommend it to others.

For those that can't find it, try WYN WYN search, or call Badger Company. (Badger sent me my replacement,) very friendly and helpful.

Webairbrushes at webairbrushes.com/accessories.htm is one of the two WynWyn pages, it lists Regdab now, and is where I wound up getting the Stynlrez primer when everyone else was out of that product.

I use the needle juice every clean on the needle, every day. it improved tip dry, needle glide is smooth and the needle is far easier to clean and the bottle will last for years, one of the best discoveries I have ever made. You can get on line at merri artist. ask for sally.

Well, I found glycerin at the drug store for about $5 for the bottle so I will try that and see how it goes. Thanks for the replies.

Please do let us know, PJ.

BTW, Regdab seems to be back in stock at Chicago Airbrush for anyone who uses them.

I've been using the Iwata super lube, and it's been very helpful in keeping the needle working smootly. Very easy to get online.
