Having completely given up trying to get a decent clear finish with Future or any acrylic clear for that matter, I thought I'd try a couple solvent/lacquer based clears. Specifically lacquer, so oil based washes can be used........... or can they?
Started with Clear Gloss Alclad II Lacquer over MM enamel base and while it's performance and result was good, found out the hard way it's not lacquer, it's enamel. I know, should've thoroughly read the label.
Moved on to Testors Model Master Clear Gloss Lacquer again over MM enamel base. Again, performance and result was good. I let it cure for about 48 hours, applied a MIG wash and cleaning up the wash with mineral spirits softened the clear.
Is Model Master Clear Gloss Lacquer really not a lacquer? Should mineral spirits attack lacquer? Can or should an oil based wash be used over lacquer?
If I were a fan or have had great success with acrylic washes, I'd stick with the Alclad II as the reults were great.
Any advice or suggestion is appreciated.
