Looking for a spray booth
Posted by flyerduke on Sunday, November 9, 2014 10:00 AM

As I start to buy more enamels, I thought it would be wise to look into a spray booth.  I saw this inexpensive one on ebay.  Thoughts.

Thanks,

Hi flyerduke.

I bought both that model, 512 and a HS-E420DCL to do a review on, the 512 will do the job but the 420 is far better, those LED strips are very good and you do notice the extra suction, also the ducting on the 420 is much friendlier and its a bit smaller when packed up but 2cm bigger opened, bit noisier though. You will find the 420 around a bit cheaper than $99, the extra $20 odd dollars is well worth it.

DO NOT wipe them with thinners.

Hope that helps.

Cheers from Mick.

Before I built my own, I had thought of getting that one. I read what I could find on the 'net, seems it's a handy little thing and useful, but the reliability of the fan motor appears to be an issue. Some failed right out of the box, some others worked for a short time then quit. It seems IF you get a good one that holds up it's a great tool, but if not it's wasted money. The seller is reputable and will stand behind it for the warranty period, but for long term dependability concerns, I decided against ii.

Take a look at "make your own spray booth" on youtube, it can be done with simple storage containers and a fan, ducting to window for exhausting fumes is also quite easy. Otherwise the big name booths are spendy, but good. Making my own with wood took some time, yes, and all told more than $120, but I was able to make it the ideal size for my needs.

Quality wood products and construction materials are not inexpensive, nor are explosion proof fans, but making your own is actually quite satisfying and an enjoyable process. Then, you have an implement that will hold up and be just right for your work space. Just my 2 cents.

Where can I find the HS-E420DCL model? Ebay sellers don't post the model number.

I had one of these (w/o LED's) and the motor is in the path of the spray/solvent, so manufacturer specifically says no Flammable solvents. That would limit its usefulness.
