If you want to use oil or enamel products for weathering it has to be over an acrylic layer. I use enamel paints and then after decals add a couple of coats of future. The products used to thin/clean enamels and oils are pretty harsh and unforgiving. If you don't want to apply an acrylic coat on this project then you can use pastels or you could try Flory washes. You could also use Acrylic washes.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Hi treetopper

I think you can use what you want over a lacquer coat, I got used to pastels because there safe on anything and so forgiving, if you don't like the results just wash them off and start again and of course so cheap as well, 70 cents per stick at the local art shop.

There's endless tons of information and video's on weathering on the net,

what would we do without Google.

Cheers from Mick.

Some stuff that might be interesting.

Hi I think I got this wrong ? can anyone explain this to me. I sprayed a body with testors gloss coat in the can it was a enamel.  As the step before putting on the decals then planned a couple  of thin coats to seal  and blend in the decals . I was told I could not use any ak weathering products because they are enamels.  And I couldn't use oil to weather over this either?  So what can I do to save this project ? Thanks

powders or pastels. don't know about enamels but i use oils over acrylics with no barrier and no issues.
