A lucky find?
Posted by stikpusher on Thursday, January 8, 2015 8:12 PM

Between Christmas and New Years my wife helped a family friend move (I was at work during this adventure)....
Anyways they had much excess including some property from deceased parents. My wife spied this airbrush and compressor that was going to be thrown out and brought it to me... it's not the best, but 1: the compressor is a step up from my 26 year old current beast (no moisture trap, pressure regulator, or on/off switch) and 2, the airbrush is a double action. It's a Master Brand, made in China and from my online websearch pretty inexpensive and not top quality. But I am hoping that it is a good one to learn with as I have been eyeballing some double action types at Hobby Lobby that are affordable with their 40% off coupon...

so here is my free trash salvage...

The airbrush obviously needs a good cleaning, but otherwise I am looking forward to trying this thing out...

The compressor looks good.

Have fun experimenting with the airbrush, Stik. I'll be curious to hear your thoughts about the double action. I'm backwards,  haven't used a single action brush in decades, actually pondering getting one.

Free is a very good price... ;)
And the compressor is something I wanted... A cheapo double action airbrush is a nice bonus...

That is a good find. Just the Regulator/Gauge/Moisture trap part of it is worth some serious money. Keep in mind that that assembly can be transferred to another compressor setup if this one conks out on you someday.

She needs a trip to Fisherman's Wharf in Long Beach, eh?

Yes, a dinner out to a waterfront restaurant is in order for this...

Nice score Stik!!!  I have a Master double-action gravity feed.  Yeah, its not the best; however, for me having never used one before it was a lot better than going out and buying an expensive one and screwing it up.  I figure if I can get a decent paint job done with the cheap brush, I can probably do okay with a nicer one down the road.

Ha.  That's the compressor I have.  Picked it up off amazon for $130 (iirc) with 3 airbrush sets almost a year or so ago.  It's decent enough.

Nice find.

OK, so I have no horror stories on this find so far... I guess I will have to take her somewhere nice...

If my wife found that compressor and airbrush, she'd tell me it's junk and we don't need more junk brought home. Let's not forget she would question whether it works or not nor feels it's worth spending more money on it to get it in working order. Yeah... that would usually be a typical response from my missus.

LOL! Well my old lady must have been feeling in the holiday spirit because I often hear the same things from her. And of course once she got it handed off to me, she did want me to check if the compressor was working, which I naturally did as well... but nothing was said about spending more money to get it running... and I did make the sad discovery that it is not compatible with my current airbrushes due to the hose hook ups.

See!?!?!  What'd I tell ya!? Now you've got to spend money on a hose adapter for your airbrush. LOL!
