What about side feeds ?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, March 4, 2004 9:46 PM
Hi guys !
I'm in the market for an Iwata Eclipse.
I read a lot of posts pertaining to the Iwata Eclipse and a lot of things have been written about the Eclipse bottle feed and gravity feeds.
However I haven't read a lot about the side feed models, its upsides and down sides.
Anybody out there have user experience they would like to share ?
I am still unsure if I want an Eclipse CS gravity or the side feed SBS variant.
I am tempted by the side feed because it can use the Aztek siphon bottles, side cups and gravity cups. Wouldn't this make it the most versatile model because of its ability to go bottle or siphon mode ?
Or am I missing something here ?

Fell free to chip in here MikeV...you're the king !

Thanks to you all for your help !!!!

No, I am not the "king" as that was Elvis. Laugh [(-D]
I have never used a side-feed so I will refer you to Greg Williams and some others here who have side-feed's such as the Omni 6000.

I have a side feed Eclipse and it's a great airbrush. Depends on if you want to pay the extra price or not. I've only used it in gravity feed mode. Found no reason to use it in siphon mode. The Aztek accessories are not a really good fit. You almost have to force it into the body.

Below is a post I submitted regarding the Omni 6000. But, I think it applies to all side feed AB's.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As many of you know, I’ve been a proponent for the Omni 6000 too having recently replaced my Aztec.

But, as I was trying to paint the camoflage demarcation around the wing roots on my 1/48 P-47 last night, it finally dawned on me that the side mount cup has one distinct disadvantage. The cup can limit access in tight areas. I model WWII A/C. It’s difficult to get into areas around the engines on multi-engine A/C and around the wing roots and the fuselage. This has nothing to do with the Omni 6000 specifically. I had the same problem with my Aztec, along with 1,000’s of other problems……

I’d seriously think about the advantages of using the Aztec cups versus the accessibility advantage of the Omni 4000 if I had the 4000 versus 6000 decision to make all over agian.

Hmmm.....
I just ordered an Omni 6000. (side feed)
I assumed you can mount the cup on either side. Not so? If you can, then it's just a matter of a little planning, right?
I was also planning on using my existing Aztek cups. Can that be done, or not?

Thanks,

Yes, I believe you can.

I believe you need an adapter for that. Greg Williams could tell you about that as I believe he bought one from Coast Airbrush when he bought his Omni 6000.

The part number for the adapter plug for Aztek cups is T893.
Its an Omni part, not Aztek.
It permits you to use Aztek cups and bottles adaptors on the Omni 6000.

Viper:-
Do you have the adapter and if you do where did you get it and how does it work?
Thanks,
