Tuco,

That's a great article, thanks for sharing!

Just read a very good tutorial on spraying future on my home forum, Large Scale Planes. For anyone interested go to the WIP section, and it's on page 12 of "Trumpeter P-38L Kicked Up a Notch" by Chuck. The whole thread is worth reading as there is a ton of other great info as well.

Thanks guys,

I think I will try the brush it on where the decal goes method on my next test model just to see the difference.

I know your pain. Should it be coated many times to be glass smooth? I, like everyone else, brush it on areas the decals will only be put but do it in two or three coats. The first coat I have found will frost the decal.

Unless you plan to use Future as the final coat, the visual unsmoothness of Future shouldn't matter. I have never had a problem of applying decals on Future-treated surfaces.

There are folks who claim to be able to shoot "Future" smoothly. I tried for a long time, and I'm not one of them.

It does brush on nicely as Jay mentioned, and even self levels to an extent.

I have never been able to get a very smooth finish airbrushing Future. These days I just brush it on the specific area where the decal is going. It works well that way and disappears under a flat coat.

Future Question

I'm working on a test model to try some stuff out, future, decals, etc.

My question is, when you apply future with an airbrush, how should the finish look? I did two coats using an old POS airbrush I got at Hobby Lobby last year, didn't thin it at all and the finish seems a little mottled. Should Future lay down smooth? I applied decals to it using Microset and sol and they seemed to turn out fine.
