Thanks for all the tips. I've read up on Don's site and got some great info there.  Also went and priced out the outboard regulator and filter.  I now know how to make this work. Going to do a quick test first of my old Airbursh (which I now know is a Badger Model 200) to make sure all is well before buying them.

Thanks,

If you live in your own home, consider putting the compressor in the garage and piping the air into your workshop.  Put a regulator and thread adapter on the end of the plumbing so you can adjust it from the workshop.  Virtually any airbrush will work with a shop compressor, but you really need the adjustment of a better regulator, an outboard regulator.

Another worthwhile consideration is a large pressure gauge so that you can better judge the settings on the lowest end of the scale. Most shop air compressors (like mine) come with a gauge that is more useful in the higher range where most tools operate. What you want for an AB is to be able to regulate the pressure from 10-25 psi with accuracy. I like to use a secondary regulator and gauge with filter at the connection from the main hose to the AB hose so that I'm able to read the pressure close to the work.

Welcome back!

If your compressor has a pressure regulator (most likely) it'll work fine with an airbrush - it will probably be noisier than most AB compressors but will work just fine. Depending on what airbrush you get you likely will need an adapter from compressor to AB hose. Most home utility compressors have a 1/4" NPT outlet but the adapters are available.  As John says, check Don's Airbrush site - worth looking over and here's a link:

Check out Don's Airbrush site.  He has a ton of information in relation to airbrush questions.  I've learned a ton from his site.  I'm not real savvy at adding a link to these forums yet; however, if you do a search for Don's Airbrush Tips online, it will take you to his site.  There are also several others here who have links to his site.

I am in a similar situation as yourself, I returned to this hobby after being away for almost 15 years.  I purchased my first airbrush/compressor combo off of Amazon for around $50.  I recently just upgraded my compressor to one made by Master.  Its nothing fancy but does everything I need just fine.

I am by no means an expert and no next to nothing about airbrushes in general, other than what I learned from Don's page.  I would imagine that you could use just about any airbrush with your set-up, you will likely want to add a moisture trap, if you don't already have one on your system and a regulator that you can dial down the pressure.

Nevermind, picked up a connector at the local hobby store.  Now I just got to see if my 25 year old badger still works.  I guess the biggest thing I will have to adjust will be the pressure on the compressors regulator. I don't have the manual anymore. Does anyone know a safe / normal range for this?

New Airbrush Suggestions that will work with $100 air compressor

Hi all, returning to the hobby after a 25 year hiatus.  I previously had an airbrush that worked off of compressed gas from a small can (badger model). Now that I am all grown up and have my very own air compressor that I use to fill car tires, etc. I was hoping to find an airbrush that will function off of that after purchasing any required connectors, etc.  My air compressor isn't the biggest but it does a good job for general home use.  Sorry if this question is a little noobish but was just curious if any air brush would work with this setup?
