Best Paint for Hairspray Technique
Posted by pilotjohn on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 5:27 PM

All;

I have been reading a lot of posts, one book, and other Internet items about this technique.  I am going to work on it with a new build, but there is one question that I still have.  There seem to be some who say  that Tamiya acrylics work the best for the layer to be removed and some say it doesn't matter.  I will be using acrylics all the way around.  Anyone have experience using Vallejo as the layer to be chipped?  I am referring to the white layer to be chipped for a whitewash effect.  Thanks.

I did it today. Using Tamiya silver with RLM dark grey to be distressed over an aircraft seat. Unfortunately the whole lot...top colour, hairspray and base silver disappeared just with the gentlest pass of a wet brush.  Guess I didn't wait long enough between coats.

On the bench: 1/32 trumpeter Douglass Dauntless ,1/48 tamiya Lancaster

How long did you wait between the base coat?  Also, did you seal the basecoat with a varnish or clear/dull coat?    Something seems odd about what happened.
