Black paint
Posted by Stinger 18 on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 10:29 PM

Just getting back into the hobby..working on an AC-119 gunship. Need any tips, techniques, tricks or even magic on how to paint the black sides and undersides with black, and not making it look like one big black blob. Do you use gloss...semi-gloss? Use straight black or tint the black with another color? Vary the individual panels? How about the raised panel lines in 1/72nd? Is there a way to accentuate them like recessed panel lines with pre-shading or washes? Sanding the panel lines off and re-scribing them seems prettyextreme In this scale...any help or advice appreciated.

I had the same issues with this model.  Perhaps this link might give you some ideas.  Good luck!

Thanks for the link to your BLACK VOODOO!  Wow, it was stunning. Gave me an idea of the different sheens..from flat to gloss. Plus using different sheens of the clear to vary it even more. Did you mask each panel after laying your black down, than spraying again...masking again???

Thank you Stinger.  I'm glad you can use some of the ideas!  No, the only panels masked were the nose and the camera section.  The rest was just sprayed freehand.
