Ghost Gray/s

Dark Ghost would be RLM, (XF-22) Light Ghost would be Sky Grey or light Grey (XF-19, XF-66)

Like Peaches pointed out, you will have to mix. Those 2 brands have nothing resembling Ghost Grays right out of the bottle. I'd recommend Gunze, Model Master, or Lifecolor.

Keep in mind, not all ghost greys are the same. It varies between paint brands. You have to make the decision on what works best for you. Then again, you'll have to deal with the 50 shades of grey when it comes to grey paint. LOL! I couldn't resist that one.....

Hello Nathan and Black Sheep, Thank you for your input and advice. Dropped into my local hobby store this afternoon and found dark ghost grey and light ghost grey in Tamiya spray can line up, I will decant them for running through the air brush, I find i have greater control with the air brush versus the spray can. The one down fall i can see with this is the paint is lacquer based and not acrylic , I will have to vent  the spray both through the window, I have been wanting to do this so now i have no excuses to get it done lol, once again Thanks.

I prefer Model Master for the ghost gray's. The Tamiya sprays seem to have too much of a blue hue to them.

Hello and thanks for telling me about Model Master paints, my local hobby shop does not carry the Model Master range. but i will look online and see what i can find, Living in Canada I have to watch for deals on shipping and sale items as our dollar is not  so hot at this time and shipping can be expensive!. i have used Model Master's both light and dark  But really, when all is said and done, it just isn't too critical.  You can mix hundreds of shades of gray, and without side by side comparison, no one will know the difference.

Whats critical regarding the ghost grays is when it comes to decaling the model. If they are too dark the decals won't show up over the paint job, especially if the Dark Ghost Gray color is too dark or too blue. This of course varies with different decal manufacturers as well.

Makes you wish Polly Scale and Aeromaster paint never got discontinued. I'd kill for a bunch of Polly Scale paint colors.

I mainly build 1/48 modern US jets and I've found that the best, or rather, the most accurate (to my eye) Ghost Greys are the Model Master paints.  And the Acryls and Enamels use the same pigments, btw.

The colors that come in a close second and that I use the most are the Mr Color paints C308 & C307.  I say these are a close second simply because they are just a hair bluer, or colder, that the MM colors.  But this isn't a problem for me because of all the post shading that I use.  But the Mr Color paint is wayyyyy better than MM in my opinion.

There is no correct match from Tamiya.  Their can paints are much too blue (or cool) and they have no matches in their acrylic line up.  You'll have to come up with your own mix.

In Vallejo model air: 71.120 is dark ghost grey, and 71.050 is light ghost grey.

You can find this color in Tamiya's SKY GREY. I know this because I am assembling a Tamiya 1/72 MIKOYAN MiG-29 FULCRUM and I ran into this very same problem with MODEL MASTER enamels, (but in reverse order). MODEL MASTER has DARK GHOST GREY F.S.36320 and LIGHT GHOST GREY F.S.36375. I had to do alot of research into this color conversions. GOOGLE ......Color conversions from TAMIYA to MODEL MASTER, they have a conversion chart.

The only problem with conversion charts is that they often are not exact matches between brands. Especially when it comes to Tamiya to lines like Model Master and Mr Color that are FS matched. There are mix formulas for Tamiya to mix Ghost Grays and other FS shades.
