Humbrol 87 Steel Grey Matt
Posted by rsm.gbg on Tuesday, April 14, 2015 7:07 PM

Hi,

I'm painting the back landing gear on my B-17F.
Revell says it should be painted with Revell 57 "Grey matt".
I use Humbrol Enamels and they convert it to 87 "Steel Grey Matt"
H87 seems very blue/grey and not really grey at all, the real color after painting.

Could anyone help me what is correct here?
A picture of 87 on the Humbrol web shows a more grey color

Nothing like the color that I get when painting.

Cheers,
- Roland

This thread probably has a lot of other stuff you'd be interested in.

That was an awesome build :D

A bit over the top for my build though...

Sure, but the take away is that you can eyeball the colors you need, and be satisfied that you are on the right path. Spill out white and a little black onto a palette, mix on the brush, paint and that's good enough.
