Problem with Vallejo chipping medium
Posted by randis on Saturday, May 23, 2015 5:37 AM

Hello,

I'm experiencing problem using Vallejo Chipping medium. On a tank I'm working on the chipping medium contracts into "pearls" just like you would expect water to do on neoprene or similar.

The surface tension of the medium is lower so obviously the "pearls" are not as thick as the water example, but the problem remains; the model is not cowered, but gets a lot of "chipable" spots instead of an even surface. Only way to get it covered is to use HUGE amount of the medium, and that is not what I expect.

My first thought was that the varnish I used (Purity seal satin varnish from GW/Citadel). I then tried without varnish directly on a layer of vallejo Air model paint, but with the same result. I have also tried using airbrush vs paintbrush to apply the medium without luck.

However reference examples that I've tried the chipping medium out on is working fine. (I did not use varnish on these).

Anyone experienced this or know what could possibly be going on? I've not found anything on this subject on the net. Just a bunch of successful Youtube videos.
