All, After black primer I painted the truck with candy apple red, instead of coming to a wonderful deep red it came up to a deep black cherry. What the heck did I do wrong ? Ralph

"Candy" paints are transparent and require a (usually) metallic base coat to achieve the desired colour.

Like Phil said candy paints are transparent so you you need the correct base coat. I'm not a car builder but I suggest you move this over go the painting forum where you will get better response.

A base coat of silver or gloss aluminum is the normal undercoat for candy finishes, though some folks use gold for a slightly different effect.
