Iwata NEO gravity feed
Posted by Toshi on Friday, June 26, 2015 9:04 AM
My question today is on the subject of needle and needle tip. I currently own a Iwata NEO gravity feed dual action AB. It comes with a .35 needle as well as a nozzle tip. I wanted to AB finer lines in detail, so I purchased a .5 needle. Do I need to change the nozzle tip as well? Thank you in advance. Toshi

Yes, the nozzle and nozzle cap must match the needle.

Note that the 0.35 needle/nozzle combination should deliver finer lines than a 0.5.

I see, the smaller the number, the bigger the spray pattern.  Thank you for the read and reply.

0.35 is smaller than 0.5

You need another AB with a .2 mm nozzle if you want to airbrush finer lines.  In theory, you could AB pencil lines with your current AB, but a .2 mm nozzle would make the job easier.

Oh, ok.  That makes a lot of sense.  Thank you for the information.  I will definately look into a .2 needle and nozzle.  Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Hi Toshi,

The smaller the number (nozzle diameter) the SMALLER the spray pattern!! As others have said a 0.2 or 0.15 mm nozzle (and needle) will do very fine lines. However, you should be able to do quite fine lines with your Neo and the 0.35mm nozzle. You need to experiment with thinning ratio and pressure. You likely will have to thin more and reduce pressure but unless you want finer than pencil lines your Neo should do it. I have a Neo and it will do pencil thin lines. And, please, don't try to use a .5 mm needle with your 0.35 nozzle - the two should match otherwise 'danger lurks'. If you check this link you'll see that fine lines were easy with the Neo:
